How probation violations arise

A violation proceeding is different from a new criminal case in important respects, and the exposure can include the sentence originally suspended in the underlying case.

In many situations counsel can determine what the warrant is for, review the underlying matter, and plan how it is addressed in court. That is generally preferable to being taken into custody unexpectedly.
